Great video - only minor problems February 8, 2010 S. Chiang (Sunnyvale, CA) Overall, this is a great video monitor. The picture quality is nice. What I find most handy is the standby mode for nighttime and the nightlight feature on the camera.
I keep the monitor plugged in during the night, but in standby mode and the volume off. My 4 month old daughter sleeps 10 hours through the night, but does wake occasionally. In those cases, I find she will murmur and cry for a few minutes then puts herself back to sleep. I'm a light sleeper, so I sound of the monitor switching out of standby mode is enough to wake me up. There is a low buzz when the monitor is on that probably only I could hear. As long as she's making noises, there's the buzz. When it's quiet, it automatically goes back into standby. I found this enough for me to know when she's awake without needing to hear the cries.
At night, I turn on the nightlight and I think it's enough for her. There are some red lights (I think for the nighttime image). When we first installed the camera, she would stare mesmerized by the red light. Now she's gotten used to it. I don't use the remote lullaby feature too often. My only complaint is that sometimes it will lose signal even when I'm a short distance away (less than 50 feet away). The lost signal lasts only a second, before resuming again. So it's a little annoying, but not a terrible inconvenience.
Piece of mind January 31, 2010 Amelia Elena Jaime We recently bought the Levana BABYVIEW20 and it has provided us with a great piece of mind keeping on an eye on our little one while we're in another room. The picture quality is great even at night and the red light seems to keep our little one occupied as well. The only thing that could use improvement is the sound. It sometimes fades in and out or only picks up his sounds at a certain pitch.
It is what i was looking for. January 30, 2010 J. C. (San Juan, PR) Good, image and sound, range not tested yet, simple instructions. You can use it with the a/c adapter or batteries. It would be nice if batteries were included.
I was skeptical... however, January 30, 2010 The Notorious R.O.B. (Denver, CO United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ended up loving the image quality, portability, and camera range. I read several reviews here before I pulled the trigger on this camera.
Bottom line:
THE GOOD:
-- Excellent B&W image, crystal clear.
-- Excellent battery life on the handheld.
-- Handheld will clip to your belt, or swivel to stand upright on a table.
-- Excellent range from camera to handheld. (It worked on the opposite side of our house 2 floors up.)
-- Easy to set up, plug in camera, plug in base. Done deal.
THE BAD:
-- I have WIFI interference when the hand held gets within 10 feet of my laptop. Pages just sit there trying to connect on the internet. When I move the handheld further away the problem goes away. I have a PC, my wife has a macintrash and it interferes on BOTH.
THE UGLY:
-- Terrible camera clamp, the camera rolls around until you tighten the entire thing, The clamp isn't tall enough to fit snugly on our baby's crib, which has a beveled edge. We have it angled and tightened on, but if you so much as drop a feather on it, it will move.
-- The power cord... sigh. Picture the huge square plug that goes in the wall(wall wart I believe it's called.) Now picture the thin power cord running from the wall and plugging into the camera. Sounds like a normal power cable right? Wrong. The nitwits who designed this thing put one of those heavy cylindrical things near the end of the cable, about 6 inches from where it plugs in. This round thing you've seen on certain computer cables, but this one is heavy, increasing problem #1 under The Ugly. It weighs down the camera so much that the camera has a tendency to lean whichever way the thing is hanging. I put mine next to the camera on the bed rail. Poor design in an otherwise great camera.
I'd still recommend this camera though. I just wish some geeks could get on here and tell me how they've gotten around the power cord issue. I also wish a handy guy would tell me another solution for the clamp. Maybe buy another that screws into the camera.... suggestions?
1st time Mom likes this product January 28, 2010 Jessica R (San Francisco CA) As a first time Mom currently living in a 2 story home, I like this product. When my husband first recommended getting it, I thought it was a bit much. Most of my friends have an audio monitor, which seems to work fine. We got it anyway, my husband loves gadgets, and I'm glad we did. I like being able to see our son, not just hear him. There are times he's laying awake yet not making noise. Then I know my free time is coming to a close and I can finish up what I'm doing. Also I was a bit nervous when he first came home, when it's too quite I get uncomfortable. Being able to see him helped me feel at ease.
The only problem we've had with the product is the clamp, and customer service was very responsive and offered to send us a new one. I am not very technically oriented and this product is very intuitive to set up and use.
Hope this review helps!
