Strobe Motion Detector July 10, 2010 L. Bonnell The alarm sound is very good and the motion detector works very well. However, the strobe really isn't a strobe. It's just a blinking light. Strobes are supposed to be very bright and very fast blinking.

Strobe alarm? April 11, 2010 What do I know? (Victoria B.C.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had the opportunity to handle and use local type alarms before. When I saw this local alarm advertised as a "strobe alarm" I thought brilliant. One would gain the disorientation of light to thwart an unwanted intruder above and beyond the shock of the alarms sound on said intruder.
Well when I tried this device the alarm produced a sound that will alert a home owner and if you're facing the alarm will cause ear discomfort. Sadly there is no strobe effect. The light that sits on top of the assembly works excellently as a back up light in a power failure situation, but in alarm mode it only flashes on and off. A typical commercial strobe light has a flash energy in the region of 10 to 150 joules, and discharge times as short as a few milliseconds; this light operates by blinking every couple of seconds, like on a Xmas tree.
So at the end of the day there is no strobe effect, if anything it will reveal the alarms' location for potential unwanted neutralization by intruder.
This alarm is designed to be mounted on a flat surface, preferably on a wall higher up and to be stationary. The alarm comes with 3 1" #4? Phillips wood screws. If mounted only in drywall could turn out badly. With all the batteries in it the possibility of it coming loose is very likely. When mounting use a longer screw(s) and find a wall stud, if you go that route.
I wanted to make this alarm portable so I fastened the alarm to a triangular shaped block of wood with 2" screws. It would have been nice to have had some kind of table top base included so the alarm could be portable.
So beyond the alarms' shortcomings it has an excellent chime mode, the fob is easy to master and as said earlier the light works well as an extra light source when needed.

We are somewhat disappointed by this purchase because we do not find it as sensitive as we hoped that it would have been. For example, when we test the motion sensor by activating it and then passing in front of it, it has not consistently worked.
On the positive side, when it responds, it is loud and the strobe lights are very bright.
We would also have preferred if the delay time (15 seconds) were shorter.

PIR cannot pass through glass panel. ( I did not know that ...)
After installation, the item is not sturdy enough. ( feels unstable)
