Driveway alarm for rural use May 22, 2010 Charles H. Knight (SE Ohiio) I purchased this driveway alert about a year ago and have used it on my long driveway to my rural home. I had earlier had a wireless alarm which was rendered useless with the constant deer crossing the beam at night .
This rubber hose alert never fails and gives great notice of anyone entering night or day.
I have two receiver boxes, one in the upstairs bedroom and one at my pool and both are loud and never miss a signal
The hose is located about 150 yards from my house and well down the hill.
If you are isolated and/or troubled by your alarm being activated by animals, I highly suggest this purchase
Dakota wireless rubber hose alert just works! April 5, 2010 T. Walker Let me start this review by saying I would have given it 5 stars, but my unit had to be sent back to Dakota Alert after 2 weeks because of a bad radio. The guys at Dakota Alert are great to work with, but I think they should have sent a new unit since mine was nearly brand new. Of course they fixed it at no cost. Anyway, back to the review. I tried the motion driveway alarms, but I kept getting false alerts from dogs, birds, and wind blowing bushes. This alarm never gives false alerts and it always works. I also like being able to choose a different sound for the alarm, since I already have a door bell and an alarm for the front door when someone enters. The installaton took only a few minutes. You have to mount the unit outside and attach the hose and mount the unit inside. I did not want the end of the rubber hose moving when a vehicle ran over it so after installation I dug a small trench and buried the last 10 inches. I installed a nine volt battery in the unit outside and stepped on the hose and the unit inside let me know that everything was working. I am extremely pleased with the Dakota Alert Driveway Alarm.
No more surprise visitors!! March 12, 2010 N. Lunceford (VA) This is a very simple system and works great! We put it about 15 ft from the entrance to our driveway and are now notified whenever someone comes down. We are rural and have had a few 'false alarms' from people using our drive to turn around in.. :-( We did find that it did not work when it was buried under the ice and snow during the winter. The narrow hose lies across the driveway and is connected to a small box that you need to mount on a post. When a car drives across, air is forced through the hose to set off the signal. When the line is buried, this cannot happen. You will not want to bury the hose and need to be aware that if it is buried, it does not work. We have really enjoyed having both this item and the mailbox alert (also got on Amazon). Now we KNOW when we are having a visitor or when the mail has actually arrived.
Great product!
Bells a Poppin' November 30, 2009 Bill H. (Northern, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This Wireless alert system works great. I wasn't fond of having to put a rubber hose across my driveway but we live in the woods and a motion activated one would be ringing constantly with all the animals, wind etc. So for the money this was a great option and no false positives. It has worked flawlessly. Very well put together IMO and of excellent quality. The only pain was getting the cover off the alert receiver. Very difficult to do. Only took me about 30 minutes to set up and that was because I wanted the loose ends of the hose buried in the dirt to keep the hose in place. The 9 volt battery I used was a regular Duracell and so far it has held up well for over a month. It has been pretty cold here in Upper, NY. I ordered one of the power lithium batteries to replace the regular battery when it gets really cold.
Best Driveway alert out there! September 21, 2009 Harvest (NJ United States) Works like a charm! No false alarms, will only go off when rubber hose is compressed. I've tried other cheaper brands(not Dakota) no hose just infrared signals and they were awful. Would go off when the wind blew or not at all. Distance is at about 300 feet and no problems. Very happy with this product.
