Amazon.com Product Description With emboldened thieves on the prowl these days, there's no quicker way to deter theft than with this portable motion sensor and break-in alarm. The MiniAlarm mounts to nearly any wall or sets conveniently on any horizontal surface; detecting any motion in the room and emitting a screeching 130-decibel alarm that'll give unsuspecting thieves a start--for the door. An easy way to scare off intruders without installing an expensive security system, the MiniAlarm Motion Sensor is a battery-powered, standalone burglar alarm that protects your home when you're away. Arming the MiniAlarm is easy, thanks to the included keychain remote. Once armed, the MiniAlarm uses a passive infrared (PIR) beam to detect movement up to 20 feet away. If triggered, the loud alarm blares for 30 seconds before resetting automatically. The remote also disarms the alarm. With its 30-second exit delay and 4-second entry delay, there's plenty of time to enter and exit without setting off the alarm. An added alarm output accessory can be attached to trigger the Deluxe FreezeAlarm system (sold separately), which can be set up to phone you and alert you of intruder break-ins. --Brian D. Olson

Good product June 21, 2010 A. Lathem Has a pretty good range of view on the motion sensor. I think the siren should be louder, but that may not be possible since its battery powered. Other than that works great! Also, the higher you mount the unit the better it works.
Does what it is supposed to May 24, 2010 G. Antell (Long Island, NY) My boat is berthed in a public marina. The alarm is an inexpensive solution to the problem of how to discourage trespassers from boarding without permission.
Peace of mind when you're home alone January 21, 2010 B.Jones (Tampa Bay, FL) Item uses passive infrared motion detector with a detection range of 60 degrees horizontally, 30 degrees vertically, and a max distance of 20 feet. I agree with the others that the detector's back compartment cover and the remote's battery compartment cover are very hard to take off. The reasons I knocked off a star is someone could use too much force and break these covers. Plus, for this price the detection angles are relatively narrow.
You'll need to have four AA batteries for the detector (not included, but unit takes Lithium or Alkaline). The three batteries for the remote are included.
After arming the unit, you have a 30 seconds grace period. The red LED light on the detector will flash once to indicate the 30 seconds are over. This same LED light will stay lit to indicate low battery. You also have the option of attaching a AC adapter (not included).
The package came with two screws for mounting on a wall but the unit has a flat bottom so it's relatively stable on a table or other flat surface.
Works as advertised October 5, 2009 Tayloe Nickey (Memphis, Tennessee) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This thing works like it says it will. Key fob allows you to arm and disarm it easily. I think it's a great little security device. It's a little expensive, but does what it says it will do. I wish there were two key fob control devices, so two people could arm/disarm it, but there is only one. That's my only wish for this item.
Not so great September 25, 2009 Andrew G. Lambrecht (Omaha, NE) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I installed this above my front door keeping in mind the 60 degree field of view and 15 foot range. First off, 60 degrees is not very much for a motion sensor. I armed it, ran a stop watch for 30 seconds and then attempted to sneak past it. I was able to sneak out my front door and across it's path to my back door without setting if off crawling across the floor. Only wen I stand up and walk like normal, will I set it off.
I also agree with others on the battery cover, it is a bit flimsy and difficult to work with.
On a positive note, I do love the short 4 second entry delay. I need to start looking for something more sensitive.
